Bascinet with Visor, 14th Century, 2mm steel
A fully combat safe reconstruction of a Late Medieval bascinet helmet from the 14th century with a hinged visor. The bascinet evolved in the early 14th century from the cervelliere and was usually worn together with a chain mail shirt.
At the bottom of the helmet the reconstruction features drilled brass buttons to which an aventail can easily be attached. The helmet is also has a visor constructed from 1.6 mm steel. Both helmet halves are hand-hammered from 2 mm strong sheet steel, neatly welded together and polished. An adjustable padded liner is riveted into the helmet.
This helmet is suitable for combat re-enactment.
