Viking Sword Torshov SK-B, 9th-10th Century, Wooden Scabbard
Viking Sword Torshov, 9th-10th century, blunt practical sword
Our practical Viking Sword is based on a find in Torshov (Gjerdrum) in Southern Norway. The hilt is classified as type H which was very common between 800 - 950 AD. Many finds of similar hilt fittings, like guards and pommels show the popularity of this type of sword.
The sword has been hand forged. The guard and pommel are made of heat treated malleable cast iron. The spring-steel blade is oil-tempered up to 48-50° Rockwell, forged to the hilt and peened with the pommel. The wooden gip is wrapped with leather string. The blade has got a distinctive fuller which offers both flexibility and a lighter weight. The edges of this sword are blunt and the tip is rounded for safety.
The sword comes with a leather bound wooden scabbard.

Please Note:
Our swords referred to as battle-ready or practical are designed to suit the needs of historical re-enactment / stage fighting and to practice swordplay. The extremely brutal impact of cutting edge against cutting edge (or any other hard object) cannot be considered an appropriate use of these swords and may eventually lead to the breaking of the blade. The warranty we offer in such a case only covers material defects (e.g. hairline cracks in the blade or processing faults). It does not apply to damages resulting from a destructive or inappropriate handling of these swords. Please also bear in mind that a practical sword is basically and essentially an item subject to wear and tear.
