10th Century Viking Sword With Scabbard, Practical Blunt
Apart from the axe, a Viking's most important weapon was the sword.
This replica of a Viking sword of the 10th century's been crafted after intensive research and sword forging. The aim was first to create a reconstruction itself, which could later serve as a model for a serial production of both an eye-catching and decorative or sharpening version. A type of sword that is not often found as a replica was deliberately chosen,. It is largely orientated to original findings, as described in the relevant literature. The blade shape and length, as well as the dimensions of the handle section, have been adapted to the body size of people of today and are also geared to the demands of a modern show.
Swords of this type are classified as Petersen S or Wheeler Type III. In the design of the vessel, it was oriented to the combination type 10 as described by Giebig.
The forged blade made of spring steel EN45 has been oil-hardened and tempered to approx. 48-50 HRC. It has been forged through to the top knob and riveted at the handle. The wooden handle has been wrapped with leather. The paring bar is forged from steel. The blade has a pronounced hollow groove, which gives the sword great elasticity and at the same time lightness. The blade tip and the blades are blunt and rounded. The Viking Sword has been made exclusively by hand.
Included is a leather type wooden sheath with an ornamented mouth and place plate made of silver-plated brass.
