Viking Helmets
Vendel Period Spectacle Helmet with Chain Mail Aventail
Battle Ready
In the style of a Vendelspangen helmet, this spectacle helmet is fully suitable for combat. It is suitable for representation from around 550 AD to the Viking Age (late 1066). The helmet cap consists of two welded, 1.6mm thick sheet metal pieces, which have been reinforced by the overlapping, riveted iron bands (clasps).
The eye holes are handcrafted from two sheets of steel and reach far below the wearer's nose. This piece is also riveted to the helmet.
The chain mail aventail is made of riveted spring steel rings (inner diameter 8mm) and is attached all of the way around the edge of the helmet.
The helmet has a riveted, very high-quality, adjustable padded insert along with a strong chin strap made of leather and finished with a brass buckle.
The helm is suitably designed for re-enactments such as the Battle of the Nations
From the Vendel period, an era that precedes the Viking Age, numerous artefacts, jewellery, weapons and armour parts have been preserved. The helmet finds are from Valsgärde, on which this battle-ready reconstruction is based.
This helmet model is available in sizes M and L.
