This Valsgärde Viking helmet is a highly detailed reproduction inspired by the helmets discovered in the boat graves at Valsgärde near Uppsala, Sweden. The rounded helmet bowl, prominent nasal guard, decorative reinforcing bands and extensive mail aventail protecting the sides and back of the head recreate the distinctive appearance associated with high-status warriors of the Vendel and Viking Ages.
The helmet looks particularly striking with its elaborately decorated metal fittings, featuring intertwined Nordic-inspired ornamentation and stylised animal and interlaced motifs. The bronze- or brass-coloured decoration contrasts strongly with the dark helmet bowl and black mail, giving the reproduction an imposing and prestigious appearance.
Located near Uppsala in Sweden, Valsgärde is one of the most important archaeological burial sites of the Nordic Iron Age. Around 80 graves have been identified at the site, dating broadly from approximately the 5th to the 11th century. The cemetery is especially famous for its richly furnished boat burials dating to the Vendel and Viking periods.
The earliest boat graves at Valsgärde contained exceptionally elaborate helmets. Several archaeological examples featured decoration incorporating bronze, gold and garnet, making them among the most spectacular surviving objects associated with early medieval Scandinavia. The Valsgärde finds also demonstrate the close cultural connections between Scandinavia and the Anglo-Saxon world. Their striking similarities to the famous Sutton Hoo ship burial in England have long attracted scholarly attention and are frequently discussed in the context of Scandinavian and Anglo-Saxon cultural connections.
This reproduction captures the characteristic visual language of these remarkable Nordic helmets. Its richly decorated nasal guard, ornamental bands and mail protection covering the cheeks, ears and back of the head make it an impressive piece.

The steel used is not rust-proof and might show slight surface tarnishing in places. It is recommended that you maintain helmets on a regular basis, for example using a Universal Oil, which is ideally suited for steel care.
