The gorget was an essential part of late medieval armour. It evolved in the late Middle Ages from the bevor, which protected the neck and was worn between the suit of armour and the helmet. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the gorget increasingly lost its original protective function and became more of a decorative badge, often worn on a chain.

This wearable reconstruction of a late medieval plate armour for the throat and neck (or rather the upper torso) is made from 1.2 mm steel. It consists of two parts - a chest and a back piece, which are fastened on both sides with riveted leather straps. Pre-punched holes in the straps allow for individual adjustment, ensuring optimal protection and a comfortable fit. Additionally, the edges are rolled all around, and it features a riveted, approx. 3 cm high stand-up collar. The back is blackened for better corrosion resistance.
