Medieval Dress with Velvet Detail-Black

This full length dress is loosely cut and is  adjusted to the body by means of lacing at the waist and back. The undersides of the sleeves also have lacing and can be adjusted.

The dress is trimmed with cotton velvet at the hem, shoulder yoke and stand-up collar to give the dress a stately look. The skirt of the dress is flared and swings beautifully due to the wide velvet hem.

This Medieval lace-up dress is versatile and offers a great basis to build up a costume from Medieval to Gothic to LARP.

Velvet appeared in the 14th century in the Mediterranean region and was mainly woven in Italy. The elaborate way it was made and also the fact that this fabric was mostly made of silk made velvet robes exclusive garments. Velvet was very popular in Burgundian fashion and during the Renaissance.

Cotton velvet should not be put in the washing machine, as velvet will then wrinkle irrevocably. Velvet should also not be ironed as this will cause the pile to lose its depth. Brush out light stains with a clothes brush in the direction of the pile. For coarser stains it is recommended taking the dress to the dry cleaner.
