Hats and Hoods
Medieval Coif, two-toned
The coif in medieval times was the head wear of married women, the unmarried women were allowed to leave their heads uncovered. Throughout Europe a hood was an integral part of many traditional costumes. In addition, the coif also had a practical benefit - to protect the hair from dirt, eg in the household or when working in the fields.
This coif made from a cotton/linen blend has a reinforced front, a different coloured, gathered centre piece and two approx. 53 cm long strands to tie the coif.
