This simple bastard sword is inspired by the hand-and-a-half swords that were widely used during the 15th century. Characteristic of this type of sword was its extended grip, which allowed it to be wielded with either one or both hands.
The approx. 91 cm long, double-edged blade is inspired by the Oakeshott Type XIIa. A fuller extends along almost the entire length of the blade, while the full tang is welded to the pommel. The cutting edges are left blunt and the blade features a rounded tip, making it suitable for stage combat.
The simple hilt has a wooden grip wrapped in brown leather. Both the straight cross guard, with its slightly flared ends, and the disc pommel are made of steel.
This bastard sword comes with a wooden scabbard covered in brown leather and fitted with a steel chape. A matching leather sword belt is also included for convenient carrying.
Not only is this Medieval sword ideal for combat re-enactment, stage fighting or sparring, but also as a collectible, decoration/display piece or prop.
The steel used is not rust-proof and might show slight surface tarnishing in places. It is recommended that you maintain the blade on a regular basis, for example using a Universal Oil, which is ideally suited for steel care.
