Leween Pugio, Roman Dagger
The main weapon of the legionaries of Rome was the dagger known as the "Pugio ", which was carried on the left side of the belt next to the thrusting sword (gladius). The Pugio has a broad, double-edged blade.

This type of weapon was developed on the Iberian Peninsula around the 2nd century BC. From thereon, it became part of Roman military equipment. It was the successor to the Parazonium, and stayed in use until the 3rd century.

This replica has a classic, wide blade with a groove. The handle consists of several layers of wood and metal, which are skilfully riveted together.

The dagger sheath is made of brass. There are 4 support rings on the brass frame of the scabbard for attachment to the belt. This Pugio has blunt cutting edges and a rounded tip.
