Italo-Norman Mask Helmet, circa 1170 AD, 1.6 mm steel
Around the end of the 12th Century weapons and armour of the Normans had intermixed with those used in Southern Europe.This Italo-Norman helmet is one example, and it is modelled after a wall painting in the church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Spoleto, Italy, which was painted around 1170AD.
This type of helmet was usually worn together with a chain mail coif. The helmet is made of 1.6mm sheet steel and has a comfortable liner from leather with a chin strap.
