Medieval Helmets
The Houndskull Bascinet evolved from the late Medieval Bascinet, also called Bascinet. Before 1420 the Houndskull was the preferred form of helmet amongst noble knights and warriors. The characteristic design of the visor is where this helmet got the name Houndskull (= dog hood / dog's head) and it was in widespread use all over Central Europe. The original of our fully battle ready replica was probably made around 1400 to 1410 in Milan, Northern Italy, a former stronghold of the Plattner Art. The helmet is made of 2 mm thick steel plate which has been riveted and welded. Offers good protection during battle reenactment.
The helmet has a lift up visor. In addition there is also a comfortable padded fabric liner and a leather chin strap.
