Hand-forged Spearhead Military Fork

The military fork is a Medieval pole arm that was developed from the simple agricultural pitchfork. Beginning around 1400, it was adapted and refined for use as a weapon. The originally curved tines were straightened and reinforced. The fork generally retained just two prongs that ran either parallel to one another or slightly flared. Some examples were also fitted with small axe blades or parrying hooks. Due to their easiness of use and relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and straightforward design, military forks remained widely in use until the 16th century.
The distinctive shape of this spearhead was derived from this historic pole arm. It is forged from a single piece of carbon steel, and the surface has been deliberately left unpolished. Visible forging marks give the spearhead a particularly authentic, rustic appearance.
The two forked tines are sharpened to a point, while the edges are left un-rounded. Two pre-drilled holes allow the spearhead to be easily mounted onto a wooden shaft. Please Note that the shaft and any required mounting materials are not included.
The battle fork is primarily intended as a collector’s item and a decorative item. It also makes an excellent prop, e.g. as part of your Medieval costume.

The steel used is not rust-proof and might show slight surface tarnishing in places. It is recommended that you maintain the spearhead on a regular basis, for example using a Universal Oil, which is ideally suited for steel care.
