Germanic Spatha Blunt Sword SK-B, Battle Re-enactment
Germanic Spatha, practical blunt, SK-B
A Sparta is a thrusting one handed sword with a broad, double edge and straight blade.
Our reconstruction is based on a Spatha which would have been used in the Germanic settlement area from the 1st to the 6th Century, the so called Migration period or period of Barbarian invasions.
The blade is hand forged from high quality spring steel and heat treated to an approx. hardness of around 48 Rockwell.
It also has a distinctive fuller which offers both flexibility and a lighter weight.
The edges are blunt and the tip is rounded for safety. Both the pommel and guard are made of riveted sheets of brass, which surround an inner sheet of cow horn. The hilt is made of wood, brass and horn.
Included is a matching wooden scabbard which is leather bound and features brass mound and chape.
Please Note:
Our swords referred to as battle-ready or practical are designed to suit the needs of historical re-enactment / stage fighting and to practice swordplay. The extremely brutal impact of cutting edge against cutting edge (or any other hard object) cannot be considered an appropriate use of these swords and may eventually lead to the breaking of the blade. The warranty we offer in such a case only covers material defects (e.g. hairline cracks in the blade or processing faults). It does not apply to damages resulting from a destructive or inappropriate handling of these swords. Please also bear in mind that a practical sword is basically and essentially an item subject to wear and tear.
