Cloaks like this were a staple of Medieval clothing throughout the Middle Ages and were worn by people of all social classes. They came with or without hoods and varied in length and cut. A good Medieval cloak offered protection and warmth in harsh weather – and those who needed extra protection wore an additional Gugel (a shoulder-covering hood) over their cloak.
