Cheek Guards for Helmets, Pair
cheek guards were often fixed to helmets to serve as a flexible protection for the face. Within the Roman Empire it was standard practice to provide helmets with cheek guards, but there have been a lot of finds from early and high medieval times also. Many nasal helmets and Spangenhelm’s from migration or Viking periods have had cheek guards.
This pair of cheek guards offer separate face protection to most helmets. To avoid contact with cold and sharp-edged steel they are covered with cowhide on the back. A wide and strong leather strip is attached to the top of the cheek guard. Only a little skill is needed to fix the end of this strip to a helmet. At the other side of the guard is a riveted chin strap with buckle.
Includes a pair of left and right cheek guard.
