In this section you will find our range of Flat Ring Wedge Riveted Chanmail from the 14th Century and arguably slightly earlier. The Flat Ring Wedge Riveted Chainmail appeared later in the Medieval period would have been constructed using flattened or partially flattened rings in alternating rows of riveted and solid punched rings and closed wedge rivets.
Later in the period the construction would have been all riveted rings without the solid punched rings but who is to say that that the alternating style would not still have been worn, so you will find both styles in this section.
Again this subject is wide open but we feel that this Flat Ring Wedge Riveted Chainmail gives a reasonable representation of the Chainmail from these periods within the constraints of production techniques against cost to bring you the best and most affordable maille of the day.
The construction of this style of Chainmail is in the 4 in 1 pattern and is of Mild Steel wire 1.2mm in diameter, i.e. 18 gauge and wound and flattened to produce rings that are 8mm internal diameter and riveted together using wedge rivets with alternating rows of solid punched rings and alternativly all rivited ring construction.
The Chainmail is supplied burnished to give a grey finish.
